Lesson 14: Troubleshooting and Common Issues
Resolving EA Installation or Performance Issues
-
Problem: The EA doesn’t appear in MetaTrader after installation.
Solution: Ensure the EA file is in the correct folder (MQL4/5 > Experts) and restart MetaTrader. Check if the EA is visible under Expert Advisors in the Navigator panel. -
Problem: The EA is on the chart but not placing trades.
Solution: Verify that Live Trading is enabled in both the EA settings and MetaTrader’s general settings. Ensure the market is open and that the EA has sufficient price data to analyze.
Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them
-
Problem: Incorrect risk management settings (e.g., wrong lot size, stop loss, or recovery settings).
Solution: Double-check the EA’s input parameters to ensure they match your trading plan. Confirm the lot size and stop loss settings are appropriate for your account. -
Problem: Broker restrictions on certain trading styles, such as scalping or using EAs.
Solution: Confirm with your broker that Expert Advisors are allowed. If not, consider switching to a more compatible broker.
Checking and Resolving Connectivity Problems
- Problem: The EA isn’t receiving data or losing connection to the trading server.
Solution: Check your internet connection and ensure MetaTrader is connected to your broker’s server (visible at the bottom right of the platform). If the connection is unstable, contact your internet provider or broker. Also, ensure your firewall or antivirus isn’t blocking MetaTrader’s access to the internet.
